Today, these building blocks are only available from and controlled by a few major companies (Niantic, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, etc.) in siloed platforms. Open AR Cloud Europe supports the global mother association Open AR Cloud Association, developing technologies and standards for open and interoperable spatial computing components on which an ecosystem of companies and their services can flourish. The Open AR Cloud Europe has already designed and implemented prototypes of essential building blocks of an Open Spatial Computing Platform (OSCP) through previous funded projects. Within the OSCAR4US project, we aim to develop the OSCP further to serve as the basis for city-scale location-based AR experiences. It is highly related to the AR Cloud [1], Spatial Web [2], and the EC CitiVerse [3] visions, which similarly redefine the way we experience and engage with digital content/data in physical space. In particular, our project addresses the following points of the 5th NGI Search call: (1) Search and discovery features for existing digital common projects, (2) AI-network synergies, digital twins, and metaverse innovations are revolutionising Internet dynamics. These technologies are fundamental to the research goals and long-term vision of the Open AR Cloud Europe gUG. The OSCAR4US project supports the Open Science Policy under the EC. It aims to adopt and advocate for open data practices to guarantee easy and comprehensive access to the project outputs to researchers and other stakeholders relevant to the project’s domain.
