The journey of OSCAR4US
This project aims to promote seamless interoperability and universality akin to the Web, where anyone can discover, publish and access content associated with physical world features of any size, anywhere.
The mission of this project is to develop components of the OSCP further to serve as the basis for city-scale location-based AR by focusing on three core work streams:
(1) An Open Visual Positioning Service (OpenVPS) including existing localisation algorithms and new user-friendly mapping tools.
(2) Continuous context-aware search for services and content (also termed “spatial discovery”), and
(3) A shared, machine-readable, standardised description of the physical environment, which we call a “Reality Modeling Language.”
Our representative use cases involving mobile pedestrians, vehicles, and numerous obstacles offer the opportunity to build and test tools for search and discovery services, virtual content authoring, and community sharing. We also provide developers with tutorials on using the OSCP in third-party applications.
